The paper aims to offer an analysis of the recent developments concerning the electoral legislation in Aosta Valley, in the context of what is defined as a generalized political crisis that has been affecting the small special Region over the last decade.
Towards the end of the Aosta Valley’s legislature, a new electoral bill has been adopted, and a referendum on this has been requested, which will be voted less than two months before the date of the elections. This situation entails the risk of distorting the electoral process and creates several legal conundrums, which are here examined.
The article proposes some solutions to overcome the impasse caused by the mentioned developments and argues for reforms that ensure to avoid that such problematic situation in the future.
